New Show: The Flip - Premieres on Tuesday!

Image
Get ready, starting tomorrow we have a new show premiering on Vinyl Voyage Radio: The Flip ! This show is all about the 45 rpm single. Hosted by Bruce Janu, the flip takes one 45, and flips it - playing both the A and B sides.  The 45 rpm record was all about the A side-- the side that contained the sing, or the potential hit. The B side was often another track from the album, or an unreleased song. People usually didn't buy a 45 for the B side -- but, as The Flip demonstrates, the B side could be better than the A. Join us for our first episode where we dive into the first single released for Fleetwood Mac's 1976 masterpiece: Rumours.  We listen first to side A, and then FLIP it for Side B -- two songs, by the same artist.  The Flip  can be heard every Tuesday at 11am (EST) with a repeat at 11pm (EST).

Thirteen Years of Vinyl Christmas

Image
Thirteen years ago — December 23, 2012 — I wrote that I was struggling to get into the Christmas spirit. The so-called “war on Christmas” was everywhere, (remember that?) yet it felt like Christmas had already won — stores opening on Thanksgiving, radio stations flipping to all-Christmas formats before Halloween was even over. It felt loud. Rushed. Commercial. And maybe a little hollow. I remember writing then that perhaps Linus was right — Christmas had become too commercial. Or maybe it just felt different because I wasn’t a kid anymore. But here's the truth:  Music is a time machine. Nothing pulls you backward through time quite like a song. One note, one harmony, one familiar voice — and suddenly you’re back in a living room from decades ago, or riding in the back seat of a car, or sitting on the floor while the tree lights glow. In 2012, Vinyl Voyage Radio had only been on for a year. And that year, I decided to do something different: instead of wall-to-wall modern Chr...

Songs in the Key of Dave - E10 - Our Little Zoo is now available!

New Episode of Songs in the Key of Dave - "Postcards from Elsewhere"

On Sunday, November 23, a new episode of Songs in the Key of Dave premieres. This one is called "Postcards from Elsewhere." It is all about travel. My dad and I take a journey across the word —swapping stories of plane rides, sunburns, hurricanes, missed tours, good mistakes, and the strangers who became friends along the way. From a sun-scorched trip to Jamaica in the early ’60s… to a honeymoon-turned-evacuation in the Bahamas…to cruises, cobblestones, ancient sites, wrong boats, right boats, and an unforgettable night in Edinburgh—each memory becomes its own postcard from elsewhere. This one features music from Frank Sinatra • Harry Belafonte • Bobby Darin • Jimmy Buffett • Etta James • Willie Nelson • Dean Martin • Pascal Dennis • Si Cranstoun • Alicia Lemke Listen at 2pm (EST) or on-demand via Mixcloud . Halloween on Vinyl Voyage Radio - 2025

Image
Halloween is our favorite time of the year here on Vinyl Voyage Radio. The fun starts at 1pm with hand-selected tunes perfect for Halloween. Then, we have some treats! The Haunted Mansion in Story and Song 2pm - This is a tradition here on VVR. This album I bought as a kid in the early 70s in Disney World. Featuring Ron Howard, this is the original Haunted Mansion story. Pumpkin Party of Death 3pm - This is the very first mix made by our friend J-Bones. He is a master when it comes to making Halloween mixes. Take it Outside, Mr. Pumpkin 4:30 pm  This is the second ever mix by J-Bones (and one of my favorites). The Weird Show 6:30 pm - This is the latest JB mix. And it's a good one. And then, a surpise JB mix later at 10pm. Which one will it be? Happy Halloween!

Episode 5 of Songs in the Key of Dave is Available!

Tomorrow at 2pm, Eastern, we have a new episode of Songs in the Key of Dave - E05 - "Wrecks, Waves and Corvettes." From MG antics at St. Michael’s to cruising Lake Shore Drive, this episode dives into my dad’s lifelong love affair with cars, boats, and even a few motorcycles.  Hear stories of the Corvette he gave up for love, the sailboat adventures on Lake Michigan, Uncle Louie’s motorcycle racing, and yes—the infamous Pinto. Featuring music from Chuck Berry, The Beach Boys, Chicago, Christopher Cross, Arlo Guthrie, and more—including songs celebrating the mighty GTO and, of course, Corvettes. Because no matter where life took him, it always came back to Corvettes.

Episode 04 - Songs in the Key of Dave - "We Did Something Right"

Image
Songs in the Key of Dave – Ep 4: We Did Something Right This special episode was recorded around the kitchen table in Florida, as my sister Lori and I visited our parents, Lynn and Dave, for Mom’s birthday. It’s the first time the four of us have been together in nearly a decade. Over gin and tonics, we laughed, swapped stories, and revisited the soundtrack of our family life—Barry Manilow, Neil Diamond, the Oak Ridge Boys, Vikki Carr, and more. Along the way we talked about concerts, campers, curfews, and even tornadoes on the plains. The episode closes with Mom’s simple but powerful reflection: “Dave, we did something right.” Join us for an hour of music, memories, and family. Listen Sunday at 2pm, Eastern -- or, right now on Mixcloud.

New show on Vinyl Voyage Radio: Songs in the Key of Dave

Image
This week, we are premiering a new show on Vinyl Voyage Radio -- a show that blends memories and music. My dad, Dave, lives in Florida, so we meet now once a week virtually and share a glass of wine. I thought it would be fun to record our conversations and make shows based on our talks. This week, we discussed the types of music that he listened to growing up. Hanging out in coffee shops in the mid-to-late 50s, my Dad had fully embraced the folk revival scene that exploded at that time. The first episode is called  "First it was FOLK." On this episode we talk about growing up in Old Town and listen to some Burl Ives, the Kingston Trio, Peter, Paul and Mary, Johnny Cash and many more. This show will premiere at 2pm Sunday, August 31, 2025. New episodes will drop at that time every week. Want to hear it early -- here you go:  It is now available for streaming on Mixcloud! Songs in the Key of Dave can be heard at the following times, Eastern: Sundays, 2pm Wednesdays, 8pm Satu...

We are back!

The storms took out our power, but we are back! And it is 2 for Tuesday!  Enjoy!

Vinyl Voyage Radio - Studio is Down

Hi Voyagers! If you haven't noticed, our stream may be sounding a bit different. Our power is out in our main studio, so Vinyl Voyage Radio is not streaming live. Our back-up server is now activated, playing an eclectic mix of music. Regular programming will begin once power is restored, but that may not be until Monday night or Tuesday. Sorry for the inconvenience.
