Third Annual First Nation Thanksgiving

As a history teacher, I believe that history matters. Thanksgiving is a complicated event in the history of the United States. The first Thanksgiving that offered hope and an example of what could be, gave way to war, genocide, and the destruction of culture all across North America. That trend continues to this day, especially in light of the effort in North Dakota and other states to disenfranchise Native people . We should, on Thanksgiving Day, acknowledge this history. For this purpose, we will offer a mix of music on Thanksgiving that features hundreds of First Nation artists and musicians. Many of these artists have been honored at the Native American Music Awards . It is our way to acknowledge that Thanksgiving is complicated and we should recognize those who were here before European exploration and the devastating results of conquest.  Many in the First Nation community do not see this as a day of Thanksgiving, so we offer the music as a means to reflect on this fact a...

Halloween on Vinyl Voyage Radio is better than ever. The fun begins at 1pm, Central when we switch over to our Halloween playlist. The Haunted Mansion in Story and Song  at 3pm This Disney release is from 1969 and features the voice of Ron Howard. Great nostalgic Halloween treat! The Astounding Pumpkin Monster at 4pm and 9pm This is the 2018 special Halloween mix by JB from fthismovie.net , featuring the Beatles, Frank Zappa, Jan and Dean and many more! Review: "Tales From PA 6" by Tom Flannery and Bret Alexander

One of the new albums we are featuring this month is Tales From PA 6 , by Tom Flannery and Bret Alexander. Back in 2016, the duo released their first venture together, Dupont Back Porches . That album was spontaneous, quickly produced and recorded. It was raw, emotional and actually felt as if it were recorded on a porch and you were there for the making of it. Tales From PA 6 sounds different. It is more polished. It is more thoughtful. It feels like these two have been playing together for years, actually. Their voices compliment each other and nicely underscore the stories they tell. The title of the album is a reference to a road running through northeastern Pennsylvania, where they both live. The idea was to construct an album telling stories that may have occurred along that road. I have never been on that road, as far as I know. I have only been to the region once.
