The Moody Blues and Warren

How many 20-year-olds know about the Moody Blues? Warren does.  This episode is dedicated to a fascinating young man who is a walking encyclopedia of 20th century music and pop culture. Warren knows it all and is more comfortable in an analog world.

Warren loves music, especially music from the 80s. He also loves old tv shows, cartoons and movies. Plus, he loves puppets.

A couple of years ago, I hosted Warren on a video podcast from the school where I am the librarian. He talked then about his life and his puppets. Check it out below.

Warren has been making puppet episodes for years. Check out his channel on Youtube.

This episode of The Song of the Week was inspired by Warren, who brought up the Moody Blues the other day. Listen at 11am/11pm, Eastern on Wednesday June 4 and throughout the week.

8 Years Down!

Your fire burns me like a favorite song
A song I should have known all along

We have been spinning a different song every week on the Song of the Week since May 2017. This episode starts the beginning of our 9th year. And we begin this year, like we always do, with a song from my favorite band, Over the Rhine.

Ohio is one of the greatest albums. Period. And we began this journey with "Nobody Number One" on May 17, 2017. This week, we revisit this album for the fifth time. I just can't get enough.

Join us at 11am and 11pm on Wednesday May 28 for "Bothered," by Over the Rhine...on our 417th episode of Song of the Week.

Played on original vinyl.

Of course.

Song of the Week - Wednesday, March 19

I grew up on Simon and Garfunkel. My parents had the greatest hits album on 8-Track and, as an adult, I collected all of the duo's albums. Except this one.

I just picked it up at a resale shop for $4.

This is their first album, released in 1964. Although it was a flop, it contained one of the greatest songs ever written. Listen this week on Vinyl Voyage Radio

What happened to the Vinyl Voyage App?

Vinyl Voyage Radio used to have dedicated apps (and if you downloaded it from the Google Play store, it should still be available on your Android phone) but these apps are no longer available in the either app store.

Why?

Well, it's a matter of cost. For Apple, in particular, it gets expensive to keep an app in the store and constantly meet the demands for updates. It's just extremely cost prohibitive to do so.

My solution: use a third party app dedicated to internet radio.

I use My Tuner Radio on my phone. It integrates extremely well with Android Auto in my car. And, I can place other channels in my favorites and scroll through them. This app is available for both Android and Apple.

The thing that works for me is that I can listen to terrestrial radio as well (if they have an internet feed) as my car radio is not very good. It is also available on Roku, Apple Tv and many other services.

Perhaps in the future, I may make an app again for Vinyl Voyage Radio, and learn how to update and code for both operating systems. But for now, this is working really well for me. And I hope it will for you, too.

Vinyl Voyage Radio now on BlueSky

It seems appropriate that today we are moving from Twitter (yeah, I know it's no longer called that) to BlueSky. You can follow us there. https://bsky.app/profile/vinylvoyage.bsky.social

We will also be doing some updating to the station. We are constantly adding more music, but our app is out-of-date and can no longer be found in the app store. We are looking for alternatives. 2025 will be a year of change for us.

But, don't worry, the vinyl music still plays 24/7. More eclectic than ever.

Thank you for listening.
