This month on Adventures inVinyl , we are going back to 1979 for "Circuit Breaker" - a great K-Tel compilation featuring hits from Foreigner, Leif Garrett, the Babys, Anne Murray and many, many more! Adventures in Vinyl can be heard every weekend at 12:30 pm Saturday and 4pm Sunday (Central time). In addition, the episode can be heard every Wednesday at 2am, central as well.

I love finding albums that were at one time owned by others who wrote their names on the cover or the label. I recently purchased a K-Tel album and discovered that it was owned by Anthony Frizzell. His neat signature appears across the label of side 2 of Today's Super Greats, Part-2 . This is a great album, with 14 hit songs that span 1970-73.  The artists include Rod Stewart, Dawn, Shocking Blue, Joe Simon, Chairmen of the Board and many more. This month on Adventures in Vinyl , we are going back to 1971 for a great compilation, 20 Power Hits, Vol. 2 .  We featured Volume 1 in 2015, now we are going back to hear the sequel. This is the pinnacle of K-Tel greatness. Released in 1980, this album introduced me to Pat Benatar, Blondie, the Ramones, Cheap Trick and Joe Jackson. Back in 2010, I opened up the boxes of records I had in storage in my basement and was taken back to my childhood and to simpler days. Among the albums, of course, were countless K-tel compilations. I wanted to share this with the world and in 2011, Vinyl Voyage Radio was born. In January of that year, the very first episode of Adventures in Vinyl was released. It featured the first K-Tel album that I purchased: Music Power from 1974. And now, we are at our 50th episode! In honor of our 50th episode, I decided to revisit an idea I had a few years ago. What if we created our own K-Tel compilation? There are songs that have punctuated the K-Tel catalog throughout the 70s. These songs were a big part of my childhood.  Last year I posted an idea: If K-tel would release a new album featuring iconic songs from their catalog, what would go on that album? We are setting the time machine to 1978 for our 49th episode of Adventures in Vinyl. On the platter: the K-tel soft-rock infused Emotions. On this new episode of Adventures in Vinyl, we are taking a time trip back to 1983 for the K-Tel compilation, "Hit Explosion." This album features hit songs from 1982 and 1983, including Haircut One Hundred, Toni Basil, Pat Benatar, Santana, Rush and many, many more. I feel a little bad right now. This station began in 2011 as a means to highlight my many K-Tel record compilations. Indeed, the very first thing we played on the station was K-Tel's " Music Power " from 1974. This month, all of that changes with the new episode of Adventures in Vinyl. On this episode, we are featuring a different compilation album. From K-Tel's primary competitor: Ronco. This month, listen to Ronco's 1973 compilation, "Good Vibrations." As Donny and Marie sang, "I'm a little bit country...." On this episode of Adventures in Vinyl, we are going back to 1975 for the K-Tel compilation, Country Road.  We don't play much country here on Vinyl Voyage Radio, but when I found a great. clean copy of this album at Goodwill, I needed to have it. Honestly, I don't know to much about country music but here it is, a country album now on Adventures in Vinyl . This album features all sorts of country music from a wide range of country artists--from classic Honky-Tonk to crossover hits. Some of these you'll probably know. Others, not so much. If country music is not your thing, give this album a try. You might be pleasantly surprised. I sure was. There's a new K-Tel album on the platter for this month's Adventures in Vinyl . We are setting the K-Tel time machine back to 1982 for The Beat: Soundwaves of the 80s .  The album features mostly New Wave hits from 1981 and 1982. This is actually a great album, with some tracks from the Go-Go's, Duran Duran, Haircut One Hundred, Split Enz, the Waitresses and more. This album comes courtesy of Jermaine, who lives in New Jersey. He's a big fan of the show and just loves K-Tel. Thanks for the suggestion, Jermaine! Happy New Year!  We begin the 2017 season of Adventures in Vinyl with a great treat. On the last episode, we spun K-Tel's 1975 release,  Souled Out .  This month, we will listen to the UK version of the album. K-Tel released multiple versions of many of their albums in different regions. The UK version of Souled Out has a different track list than the US version. And, in my opinion, a better track list, too. This episode comes to us courtesy of a listener who goes by the name Johnny Gators . He sent me a vinyl rip of this album. He also has a show on the No Hold Barred Radio Network , a channel specializing in adult comedy and talk.
