Next on the Turntable: Believe in Music from 1972
This album has my favorite Cher song: "Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves." It also has the 70s favorite, "Brandy (You're a Fine Girl)." This, of course, is one of the greatest one-hit wonders of all time. Although Looking Glass released two albums, nothing would not come close to the success of that song. I recently came across a picture of the band. Not what I expected:
The album also has a song by Rick Springfield. Yes, that Rick Springfield. The one who sang about "Jessie's Girl" in the 80s. The song on this album is "Speak to the Sky," off of his debut album, Beginnings.
Believe in Music was released in late 1972 and contains hits by Rod Stewart, the O'Jays, Five Man Electrical Band and Eric Clapton. And get this: Donny Osmond is on the album twice. Double the Donny. Here is the commercial:

It's worth noting that most if not all of the songs were edits, shortened so that more songs could fit on the LP.

ReplyDeleteI know a guy named Dillon Upton who goes by the username APyleOfVinyl (he has 5 other channels) on YouTube and he has this K-Tel LP, along with "Goofy Greats" and a few others. His copy of "Believe in Music" is very scratched up, but is well worth listening to. Be sure to look it up on his channel.

Mortgage Interest — The Rule That Catches Most Landlords
The old system, where individual landlords could deduct 100% of mortgage interest costs against rental income, was abolished between 2017 and 2020. Since April 2020, individual landlords can no longer deduct mortgage interest at all from their rental income. Instead, they receive a 20% tax credit on their finance costs — which means higher and additional rate taxpayers have taken a significant effective tax increase even when their actual rental profit hasn't changed.
This has pushed many landlords toward structures they hadn't previously considered — from incorporation into a limited company (where mortgage interest remains fully deductible as a business cost) to reviewing property ownership between spouses. Our tax advisory team regularly reviews these structures for landlords to identify whether a change would generate meaningful savings, given that incorporation itself has upfront costs and stamp duty implications that need to be factored in.
